Letter from Home

letterBy Zachary Fraedrich

Far too many customs check stamps, a torn seal, piss-poor, unrepentant tape job, and a

giant fold across the face shows how hard it is to get a piece of her heart, to and from

Afghanistan. The center of the envelope is addressed CMR 457. Several stamps are on the right,

to make sure it arrives. The left corner holds her name, her cursive.

The weight of the picture, her fingers laced in his, the words I’m leaving you scribbled on

the back, all burned away with the collection, all the other letters she sent.
