The Last Day

stormBy A R Kelly

A low rumble woke her up, and she lay in bed listening to the storm. The phone lit up. 7.45am.

And “Stay home. Lock everything. Back soon.”

She peeled the curtain back. The world was still night, lit up by flashes of lightning. And sirens.

Auto-text filled the TV screen.

Asteroid Strike, Northern Hemisphere  – Catastrophic damage.

Severe Tsunami Warning Coastal areas, residents advised to evacuate immediately.

She plugged the bath and ran the tap. There was enough food for a few weeks if the power worked. Candles? Check.

She rubbed head. Why must the world end before morning coffee?
