Ten Feet Tall

Shadow of a father and daughterBy Christopher Larson

Sometimes Dad looks ten feet tall, even when he’s sitting down. Times like right now. Maybe it’s just ’cause I’m short, but every time the fireworks explode over the trees and I can see him clearly for a second and he seems to get bigger.

To be honest, it makes me feel safe. It makes my classmates feel … shorter. Knowing that even when Ike starts laughing at me, my Dad’s bigger than him. That makes me feel safe. But at the same time, he’s not really ten feet tall. But I’m more than happy thinking he is.
