Walled Off

wheelchair-749985_1280 I loathe —
with a smoldering disdain,
the robust,
the whole,
the un-damaged—

Envy the cadence of your gait:
All easy steps and limber limbs,
effortless, elastic, and deaf to every snapping synapse
so perfect and painless.

(That was once me.)

So – go on,
breathe it in, and
walk, walk, walk

But please,
Never mind me.
I’ll just be over here,
pecking poetry into my laptop
with my good hand.
