She sits quietly just like she always does. But today as her train reaches its next stop, he steps in, sees her, and smiles. She so wants to smile, yet her lips remain locked. He may talk to her. It would be magical for a little while, but all too soon the bitter end would spark.
His beautiful smile persisted until the following stop. His stop.
She sits quietly, but his absence now intoxicates her mind. She should have smiled. This could have been that one time it never died down.
“…but all too soon the bitter end would spark.” How often we convince ourselves of this to avoid taking a chance. To stay in the fear instead of risking. What she will eventually realize is that the risk is what brings life into the light. Beautiful piece — thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much Nancy for your ever so inspiring comment. I am so happy you enjoyed my Drabble. I have the feeling she is just about to realise this. I do hope she gets to meet him again.

I need you to paint a better picture. Is she sitting by the window? What is she wearing? Does she have glasses? Is she reading a book? Does he enter the compartment and sit next to her or across from her. Does he notice the book she is reading, and then does he look quickly into her eyes and smile? Are words spoken? What if this event was seen by a third party. What would they see and hear?

Thank you so much for such an exciting comment. It surely got the writer in me intrigued and determined to further describe their encounter. I can see it shaping itself in my mind already. Thank you.

I am not too sure wether she will see him again Bun. He could well be from a different country but next time such encounter happens, she might well smile back.

Ha I can relate to this, moments in the past where I thought I’d passed up something important. Turns out I definitely didn’t…my boyfriend is a star 🙂

Thank you so much for sharing your story Alex. I am so happy that such moment was not the defining one for you and that you met your boyfriend. Who knows, she might too meet her very own star.
