Light on Her Feet

By Wordbylynda

“Spin darling, spin,” and spin is all that Martha ever did. Mother said it would be good for her when she finally got into the prestigious ballet school, when she would be popular and have all the boys fancy her.

But mother did not know, how much she hated ballet, how sick it made her feel, how fat she felt under the weight of the other girls’ stares, with their perfect pointed feet and shapely concave stomachs.

But oh such an obedient girl, all she ever did was spin.

  1. Sometimes I honestly wonder if ballerinas feels this way because there’s so much pressure on them to be this perfect form. Very well written, it applies to girls who aren’t ballerinas as well as I’m sure you know.
