Storm

They call her beautiful, and, indeed, she is. Beautiful in the way of a lightning strike – only when viewed from a distance. Up close, she will burn skin from bone.

She wears prisms of light in each strand of her hair. Every dead cell alive with the electricity that emanates from her soul.

Only scorched earth lies in her wake.

  1. Reminds me of the terrible fires the people of northern California have suffered this past week. My daughter lives in Napa and it’s been an especially difficult time for so many.

    1. James, we live in Marin County, and have been saddened by the devastation an hour north of us, a favorite place of ours, too. I hope your daughter is okay, as well as your family…

  2. Nature is that way, storms, floods, fires, volcanos, earthquakes, the list goes on. If we pause with an open mind we can always see beauty draped in the destruction; perhaps that is the miracle of our world and our short sojourn therein! I enjoyed this piece and all your drabbles.
