Maybe Today

By K.V. Martins

Those words / plucked like birds from a eucalyptus sky
swollen and breathless / you dig holes in the yard to bury them
bone to bone / but they won’t go away / all over town
dogs are lying down / panting / under honeysuckle hedges
waiting / in yellow heat / for you to swallow / the red pill
before the sun retreats

K.V. Martins’ work has been published in The Copperfield Review, Flash Frontier, Furtive Dalliance, “a fine line,” CafeLit, and Barren Magazine. She is motivated by her two English Pointers to get up from the writing desk and walk.
