Those words / plucked like birds from a eucalyptus sky
swollen and breathless / you dig holes in the yard to bury them
bone to bone / but they won’t go away / all over town
dogs are lying down / panting / under honeysuckle hedges
waiting / in yellow heat / for you to swallow / the red pill
before the sun retreats
