Lost Nation

By Barbara Hurwitz

After The Mueller Report had been removed from library shelves and bookstores, and a house-to-house search for harbored texts was completed, a ceremonial conflagration was hosted on the White House lawn where a testimonial to the Rule of Law was consumed by flames.

Armed militia protected New Age cheering supporters from tearful mourners shuffling past the burning symbol of democracy while the leader of the once free world watched with glee.

In the wee hours of the morning when flames finally died to smoldering ash, he tweeted:

Barbara Schilling Hurwitz is a retired teacher who has found a new voice through writing. Her work has appeared in Montgomery Magazine and Microfiction Monday.

  1. Wow, very scary….just when you think things can’t get any worse, they do. Maintaining a good attitude in this current climate is a challenge. Let’s hope America soon sees the follies of “our leader’s” decisions and moves to remove him. He is a danger to non-thinkers and mindless followers and the future of our nation.
