“What’s the problem?” the man at the desk says.
“I’ve just been informed that I have expired.”
“Oh dear,” he says. “Let me check … Yes, you’re right. You expired three weeks ago to the day. So how does it feel?”
“To have expired? It hasn’t really hit me yet.”
“Well we better do something about it. Just update your details, and you’ll be good again.”
“Unexpired?” I say.
“Yes,” he chuckles.
“Is that even a word?”
“Probably not but it is a state. Welcome to the land of the living.”
And with that, my borrowing privileges are restored.
