Ten-Year Plan

By Linda Chandanais

Having children wasn’t in her ten-year plan. Abstractly, parenthood dangled in her future along with a BMW.

Education – done.
Partner – Bobby.
Career – Wall Street – soon.

Bobby was ecstatic. “We can make this work, babe.”

Mom – “There’s never a right time, honey.”

She told herself the tiny human residing in her womb wouldn’t waylay her plan. But as her middle ballooned, so did her fears.

Twelve hours of labor – a perfect girl. As she held her daughter and counted toes, she couldn’t fathom life without her. “It’s time for a new ten-year plan.”
