“You didn’t get me into bed till our third date,” she corrected his memory, again, blushing, when he winks, saying, “Best lay—ever,” an announcement underlining just how lucky they felt, beholden, both, to the Universe for its perfect timing, synchronous placement of two people, sudden lovers, hearts unjaded, while finding food, shelter, and brief respites from anguish for Biafrans in flight, and a mutual history that now included, following a pregnancy that surprised them, their little boy, fast asleep in the back bedroom of a three-story chalet in the foothills of the Falkanis.
