Submit Your Drabble

The Drabble accepts original works of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. Our editors will review each piece we receive, and if we like it, we will publish it. Please submit only one piece at a time. We are pretty backlogged with unread submissions at the moment (updated 5/24/21). It generally takes us 4–8 weeks to respond to new submissions.

Some drabblers have asked about the criteria for becoming an “Editor’s Pick.” We reserve the “Editor’s Pick” designation for pieces that perform especially well (in terms of page views/likes), and/or pieces we think deserve extra recognition.

In August 2016, The Drabble launched The Drabble Quarterly, an e-zine featuring a selection of some of our favorite drabbles from the previous three months. All submissions will be considered for publication on both the site, www.thedrabble.com, and in the Quarterly. Note: by “Quarterly” we could very well mean “published every quarter century.”

Note: Your submission must contain no more than 100 words. We reserve the right to edit any piece we receive to conform to our style guidelines (loosely based on The Chicago Manual of Style). Please include your name, WordPress link, and the title of your piece. (The title and by-line do not count against the 100-word submission limit.)

As for the bio: We’re far more interested in why you write than where you’ve published. Please keep it brief, preferably a sentence. If you’d prefer to remain anonymous, please indicate that in your submission.

If you’re not yet entirely sure what drabble is, consider reading this post.

We do not accept simultaneous submissions. If you’re submitting something that you’ve already posted on your own blog, we ask that you please cut and paste the text into the body of your email. Please do not send links.

(c) All work on this site is copyright to its individual creators. No work on this site may be reproduced in any way, shape, or form without the express consent of its creator.

All submissions remain copyright to their individual creators. All works published in The Drabble will remain on this site for as long as wordpress.com exists. If a work that you submitted to The Drabble is published elsewhere after first being published in The Drabble, then The Drabble must be properly credited as the original publisher of the specific work.

We look forward to reading you shortly. (Bad pun intended.)

  1. Hello! I just submitted to The Drabble and I am wondering if I can edit/shorten my bio if I am given the honor of being included on your site. I was so enraptured with the practice of making my submission tight, I inadvertently allowed my residual energy to spawn a less than concise bio. Oh no! I am doing it again… Thanks, bye.

  2. Hi, several years ago The Drabble published a couple of poems I submitted, Gardens and Driving Down a Gravel Road Thinking of Bud Powell. They both now appear in my new book of poetry from Main Street Rag Press, Many Suns Will Rise, and I wanted to see if your editorial team would like a complimentary copy. If you’re interested, just shoot me a snail mail address. I’m basically trying to find good homes for some of my author’s copies.

Hope all is well with you and The Drabble.

    Thanks!
