On a Sunday

He had trouble walking that day, but only wanted a little help. He leaned against me as we walked from the parking lot into the church.

Once inside, he thanked me, and slowly headed for his pew, stopping to chat with many folks along the way.

At the end, I asked him if he’d walk out with me. He gratefully reached for my arm and hung on.

He assured me that he could drive just fine, and that he could manage when he got home. I think he had already made up his mind.

He missed his wife so much.
